New Year’s Eve is the last day local school districts will be accepting tax credit donations for the year.
Residents will be able to make last-minute donations to Horizon Community Learning Center, Kyrene School District, and Tempe Union High School District that benefit students’ extra-curricular activities.
Tax credit donations can be given directly to specific activities like sports, fine and performing arts, field trips, extended kindergarten and intramurals for younger students.
Couples who do or do not have children in school can donate up to $400 to a school of their choice, if filing jointly, through the Arizona Tax Credit Program. An individual filing their tax return can give up to $200.
The tax credit donation is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the actual state tax owed.
Kyrene Altadeña’s principal, Nancy Corner, said a majority of her school’s student population is involved in extracurricular programs.
Recently, Altadeña’s First LEGO League robotics team won first place in a regional competition.
“Altadeña is able to support close to 15 clubs, school musical performances, athletics, and before- and after-school tutoring in our Learning Lab program,” Corner said.
Most of the school’s clubs, Corner added, were paid with uncategorized funds from tax credits.
Horizon, Kyrene and Tempe Union will be accepting donations until Dec. 31.
To donate to Horizon, visit horizonclc.org and select the “Arizona Tax Credit” page under the “Give to HCLC” menu.
Kyrene’s district office is located at 8700 S. Kyrene Road. Donations can be made in person on Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or online at kyrene.org/taxcredit.
Tempe Union’s district office is located at 500 W. Guadalupe Road. Donations can be made in person from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or online at tuhsdpayonline.org, selecting the “tax credit donation” option.
