The Ahwatukee Children’s Theater is hosting a workshop tomorrow for kids interested in auditioning for the theater’s two show choirs.

The workshop will include a mock audition with feedback and auditioning tips. The theater is hopeful kids will get back into the swing of things after the summer break.

Auditions will be next month for students interested in both Select and Treble Makers show choirs.

“They have an appreciation for the amount of effort that goes in,” said Director Michele Rubino, of the show choir students.

Treble Makers, the theater’s beginning level choir, and Select, the advanced group, will both go on trips next spring.

Kids from grades five through nine who make it into Treble Makers will go to Hollywood during spring break for a vocal competition and educational lessons.

The high school level group, Select, will be travelling to Hawaii at the end of May for workshops, performances around the islands, and a competition.

“Show choir is a great thing for kids to be able to do. Plus, it’s not just singing,” Rubino said of the choir’s movement choreography. “It keeps kids on that straight and narrow path.”

The workshop will be Monday, July 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per student and will be at the Ahwatukee Children’s Theater, 5051 E. Elliot Road.

Auditions for the two show choirs will be Aug. 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., also at the theater.
