Ahwatukee Foothills Brownie Troop 64 will host a garage sale Saturday morning to help support the organization "Feed My Starving Children." Both members of the troop and siblings have donated a variety of household items, which include toys, clothing and some furniture.
At one of their past meetings the girls discussed how they are lucky to have three meals a day.
"The girls and moms alike felt strongly that we should do something to help give starving children some nutrition that they are in desperate need of," said Rosie Evans, one of the troop moms.
The girls are from 7 to 9 years old and attend Kyrene de la Esperanza Elementary School.
"We are very proud of our girls for showing how much they are willing to give of themselves because they are touched by helping other children," Evans said.
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing meals to children around the world. Once the troop packs the food on March 4, the packages will be sent to children in another country. The organization ships food to about 70 countries around the globe. Some of the troop members have volunteered with the organization independently in the past, but this is the first time they will be volunteering together.
The Brownie troop's goal is to raise $550 in order to pay for the food package. At the garage sale, the girls will take turns in shifts with three stations that will include garage sale items, Girl Scout cookies and a lemonade stand.
"The girls and their siblings have been wonderful, giving up their items to sell to feed children in need," troop leader Rebecca Stewart said.
The garage sale will be Saturday, Feb. 19 at 14040 S. 39th St., Phoenix 85044.
