Supporting the troops can be as easy as hitting some golf balls at the American Legion Post 64’s golf tournament on Saturday, March 31.

This is the fourth annual golf event for the club and it will be at Ahwatukee Country Club, 12432 S. 48th St. The golf tournament will begin at 1 p.m. and end with an awards dinner and raffle in the evening.

The American Legion is a club for veterans to continue supporting patriotism and national security.

Locally, American Legion Post 64 has contributed to the military and hospitality room at Sky Harbor Airport, care packages sent to military deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, the National Cemetery Carillon, the Stand Down program for homeless veterans, and the Wings for Warriors Program.

The group also participates in school awards, the evolution of the flag at schools, the National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, and leads the color guard every year in the Ahwatukee Easter Parade.

The golf tournament is the club’s largest annual fundraiser. Pete Meier, American Legion Post 64 “Ahwatukee” senior vice commander, said the group usually raises more than $4,000 through the tournament.

The event can hold between 80 and 100 people and will cost $85 to join. To sponsor the tournament or register to attend, contact Pete Meier at (602) 690-3361 or petemeier@cox.net.
