Despite low attendance numbers after a reorganization, location move, and literally losing everything, Adventure Community Church in Ahwatukee Foothills is living up to its name.

“We’ve definitely been all over the place,” said lead pastor Michael Clark, who started the church nearly 12 years ago.

With its non-traditional building along 48th Street just north of Chandler Boulevard, Earth-toned interior colors, and a willingness to discuss and preach on topics once swept under the rug by the Christian church as a whole, Clark said he wants people to know that it’s a place for everyday people.

“It’s for culture, we take something that is a value to them, and then take Scripture to it,” Clark said.

Before moving to their current location six year ago, the church met at nearby Horizon Community Learning Center. Storing their technical and other equipment in a trailer at the school, the trailer was stolen one night, valuing almost $35,000.

But continuing on to serve the community, the church has seen a flux and flow of attendees.

“That’s been really tough, a lot of people don’t know we’re here,” Clark said.

This Sunday, March 24, Clark will be wrapping up the church’s ever-popular sermon series: “God, Love and Sex.”

Based on the “Song of Solomon” book in the Bible, Clark is aiming to discuss a very relevant topic and unpack what Scripture says about it.

This summer, the church will continue its series “At the Movies,” where the church’s sanctuary is decked out in movie memorabilia, also giving away free movie tickets for first-time attendees. The sermon series takes the main message of a selection of movies while using the Bible to apply its meaning.

With a heart for area youth and the aim to build up men in the church, Adventure is maintaining a smooth course despite a few bumps.

“We’re a church that has lost everything and still went on with nothing,” he said.
