A mix of singers from Mountain Pointe High School’s choir department will be serving and singing to parents, fellow students and guests at this Saturday’s “That’s Amore” dinner show.

The production features about 40 students in solo, duet and group acts. The students will perform 20 songs throughout the night that include modern-day and classic hits. The show begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Ahwatukee.

“It’s a great and entertaining evening,” said choir director Matt Henry. “It’s always fun to have their talents displayed.”

Ticket sales for the dinner show will help fund the choir’s spring tour. Every March, the students attend a competition in either San Diego or Anaheim, Calif., with other choirs in the region. This year, however, the group is confident to receive a gold rating.

“Last couple of years we’ve gotten silver,” said Henry, adding that his groups have come in as close as within two points away from receiving gold.

“They’ve been really working hard, and I think they feel this could be their year,” he added.

Since the idea for the dinner show first began about five years ago, Henry has made it a point to get his students involved in their own fundraising.

Students in choir will also be helping out at the event by serving the catered, spaghetti dinner from nearby Italian restaurant, Buca Di Beppo.

“Why do car washes when you can sing and entertain people?” Henry said.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church is located at 3550 E. Knox Road. Tickets for “That’s Amore” are $10 and will be available at the door on the night of the show, or at Mountain Pointe’s bookstore for students.
