It’s August. Schools are gearing up for the return of students, and mothers everywhere are exhaling a huge sigh of exhaustion. Finally, a few hours in the day free from “I’m bored,” “I’m hungry,” and “He hit me.” Now you can focus on you.

Ha! I know; that was funny. The switch between summer and school merely means time goes from one set of activities to another.

Now come fall sports, bake sales, performances, homework, and wrestling matches over bedtime.

Allow me to add to the craziness. Have you considered you only have about 90 days until the holidays spin up? Seriously, 90 days (try not to faint).

My point? Life is crazy — and super nuts if you have kids. If you aren’t careful, life will gobble you up and spit you out.

Moms everywhere run around berserk, attending to everyone and everything but themselves. The No. 1 health obstacle I hear repeatedly is “time.” Flat out, “no time.”

I want moms to think about this next 90 days as a valley of time between the summer and holidays.

You may not have scads of hours to do as you please, but your best chance to get anything accomplished is starting right now.

Halloween candy will be here before you know it, and once the grocery stores start setting out the cranberry sauce cans and piling up the stuffing mix, it’s all over but the shouting for you. You will have zero time for anything personal.

It will be turkeys, house cleaning, baking, parades, decorating, costumes, gifts, shopping, and maybe a little family drama.

Picture all those parties and get-togethers.

Do you wanna be feeling fit and accomplished picking out which top goes with those pants? Or do you wanna be dreading it? Do you want to feel confident next to the chocolate fondue fountain, or powerless against its allure?

I know you think you never have the time to exercise or meal plan. But honestly, now is your best chance to take a run at getting fit.

It’s not ideal, you still have obligations and people tugging at you, but it’s better than it will be around the turn of the year.

Don’t start selling yourself on New Year’s resolutions, either. We both know you won’t keep them.

Plus, you’ll be poorer from the holiday spending — lack of money being the other big detractor in our ability to get fit (not that you need money to do it, but if you want help — it takes some dough).

Now that the kids are headed back to school and the holidays are still a ways out on the horizon, I want you to think about carving out just a little time each week for you — for your health and fitness. Let August through the holidays be the perfect time to do it.
