The Foothills Acceleration and Sports Training (FAST) team in Ahwatukee is seeking new members for its upcoming group running sessions.

FAST’s run group has been in Ahwatukee for the past 10 years, and typically has 60 to 100 runners in the group each year.

FAST Program Director Jeff Bloom said the running group was for both intermediate and advance runners who were interested in getting into shape while having a fun time.

“We really want to hit that demographic of new runners who are new to the sport,” he said.

Runner will train for the 2015 P.F. Chang’s Rock ’n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & Half Marathon, which takes place in Phoenix and Tempe.

“Our hope is to get new runners and people who have never ran before to do the 10K,” Bloom said. “All our runs take place either here in Ahwatukee or in Tempe.”

Along with exercising, Bloom said there was also a huge social aspect within the running group.

“We do happy hours every three to four weeks where we all get together to go out for drinks and food,” he said. “There are a lot of social aspects to it besides showing up and running.”

Courtney Moskal, who has been running with FAST for the past six years, said the group has helped her get faster.

“If you’re new to the area and want to get into running, it’s a good way to meet people and run together,” she said.

Bridget Darling started running in FAST’s group two years ago with her boyfriend, and has been enjoying the experience ever since.

“We thought it would be fun to run with people who we could keep up with,” she said. “It’s nice to find a group where we had different people to run with and not have to worry about slowing someone down or die trying to keep up with them.”

According to a statement from FAST, the 2014-15 running group includes a 21-week training program with weekly group runs on Saturdays, weekly speed workouts on Tuesdays, and one free group fitness class each week.

Runner will also receive a free T-shirt after registering.

The cost to sign up with FAST’s running group is $175, and new runners receive a $10 discount.

FAST will host its first run session at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at its Ahwatukee location, 15410 S. Mountain Parkway, Suite 112.
