Principal Shelley Conner said she’ll miss camaraderie the most at St. John Bosco in Ahwatukee.

In making the transition to Christ the King Catholic School in Mesa next year, from her seven-year career at St. John Bosco, Conner said her school community is made up of more than just co-workers.

“It feels like I’m leaving family,” she said.

The school, which opened in 2001, teaches more than 500 students from preschool to eighth grade. Located south of Chandler Boulevard on 48th Street, the school promotes “integrated thinking and believing in ways that encourage intellectual growth and nurture faith and inspiration,” according to the school’s website.

Filling in Conner’s role this fall is current assistant principal, Kim Silver.

Working in education for some 22 years, Conner’s service to the school has supported teachers, staff and a variety of programs at St. John Bosco, like the music program.

“I’m pleased that we were able to keep (our programs) going strong,” said Conner. “And I’m comfortable that I’m leaving the school in a good place.”

Silver, who came to the school when it first opened, served in numerous community roles such as organization chairs as well as teaching in higher education.

“My son was in first grade the year the school opened,” Silver said.

She also taught in higher education.

“After a 10-year journey, I knew I needed to be in Catholic education full time,” she said.

In her first year as principal of St. John Bosco, Silver said she hopes to continue on the same track, striving for excellence.

“We have a great institution, and my job is simply to continue in that school excellence for the whole child and the Catholic identity,” Silver said.
