Vibrant colors and life experiences are the inspiration behind Ahwatukee Foothills resident Tara Prescott’s paintings.

Prescott has always been interested in art. At the age of 13 she got her first easel set and she said she’s been painting ever since. Her work is now on display at the Montage Art Studio in Tempe, 740 S. Mill Ave., through Dec. 15.

Prescott majored in studio art at the University of Arizona before graduating in 2004.

“It’s the only thing I really found that I enjoyed,” Prescott said. “I mulled it over and explored different things. I’ve always wanted to help people. This was the best way for me visually to do it. I’m better showing you than I am at speaking it out loud sometimes. (Painting) can be therapeutic at times and invoke emotion.”

Emotion is what Prescott said she hopes people see when they look at her paintings. Each means something unique to her, but they can also be meaningful to others. She hopes the bright colors also help get the message across.

“I favor vibrant colors,” she said. “I think that fits who I am as a person. I can be shy at times but I also have a very dynamic personality. People can relate to color. It invokes a feeling for people, so I like to use a lot of color.”

While Prescott favors painting she has also explored sketching and sculpture and is now going back to school studying hair and makeup, which she believes can be another canvas for her art.

“I like to share with people to always continue to learn and educate yourself and find people who have done it before you, despite what’s going on in your life,” she said. “If there’s something you want to do you should do it. Always continue your education.”
