The Desert Vista High School Marching Band will host its Thunder Run: Road to Carnegie in efforts to raise money for trip expenses.
The Thunder Run will consist of a 5K run circling around Desert Vista, and people also can participate in a mile jog.
The Desert Vista Marching Band will be heading to Carnegie Hall March 1-5 where the Wind Ensemble and the Advanced Percussion Ensemble will perform.
Both groups were selected over the past summer.
Nearly 80 members of the marching band will be traveling to Carnegie Hall in New York City to participate in the New York Wind Band Festival.
Students submitted a CD audition, were selected to participate in the festival, and with the festival date coming up, students had been out fundraising to cover the cost of traveling.
Expenses range from $1,700 for each student, which includes flight and equipment rentals.
Director of Bands Josh Thye said the marching band hosted other fundraisers to cover traveling costs, and he was hoping the Thunder Run will be the program’s most profitable.
“We’re trying to raise $100 per student at least with our different fundraising efforts,” Thye said.
The Thunder Run will be on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Desert Vista High School Stadium, 16440 S. 32nd St. Individuals interested in participating in the Thunder Run can register at www.thunderband.org.
