Tempe Union High School District is close to naming the successor to Superintendent Steve Adolph.

On Tuesday, the public was invited to the TUHSD offices to listen to the final two candidates: Dr. Greg Wyman, associate superintendent of schools for TUHSD; and Kenneth Baca, assistant superintendent for business services for Phoenix Elementary School District.

Wyman and Baca each took an hour to answer questions and describe their work history to the people in attendance. Wyman has been with TUHSD for the past two years and was superintendent for six years at the Snowflake Unified School District and four years at the Apache Junction Unified School District.

“This is just an outstanding district… and it was a no-brainer for me to apply,” Wyman said. “There is always going to be a degree of sadness that (Adolph) is retiring, but I wish him well. I don’t think the work ever ends… our ongoing goal is to continue to get better.”

Baca has worked with PESD since 2002 and previously worked as the director of assessment, evaluation and externally funded programs and as principal Kenilworth School.

He said he did not want to comment until the selection process was completed.

The governing board has conducted several interviews with both candidates. There will be a special meaning on March 28 to continue the discussion and possibly make a decision.
