Ahwatukee Children’s Theater will host a kickoff party this weekend in preparation for the American Girl Fashion Show and Fundraiser in November.
While the party is noted as being “simply for fun,” it will also be informative for parents, said Michele Rubino, executive director and founder of Ahwatukee Children’s Theater (ACT).
Families can stop by the theater tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon for information on the November fundraiser and how their daughters can audition for the fashion show. The theater is looking for girls sizes 6x and 10.
Kickoff party guests will also get a chance to win American Girl-themed door prizes, receive makeovers, and learn how to work the runway with a modeling workshop at 10:30 a.m., Rubino said.
Attendees will also be able to help the theater put together a new tile wall.
Kids can purchase a tile and paint it at the party where it will be a part of the theater’s “wall of fame,” partnered with Ahwatukee pottery-painting studio, As You Wish.
“We hope to do it several times a year until the entire hallway is covered,” Rubino added.
Tiles will cost $12 to $25, depending on the size.
The theater aims to get more people involved in fundraisers and community events like the kickoff party. As the nonprofit theater’s second fundraiser, Rubino said pure excitement is buzzing.
The fashion show and fundraiser is booked for the Chandler Center for the Arts, which can seat more people than last year’s 200-plus attendees, where some guests had to be turned away due to lack of seats.
Proceeds from the fall fundraiser will go toward operating costs and community outreach services.
“Times are tough, and as a non profit, we fundraise,” Rubino said.
Ahwatukee Children’s Theater is located at 5051 E. Elliot Road. For more information about the kickoff party or general questions, call (480) 705-9319 or visit azact.org.
