Pool Party

While planning a patient appreciation event when Pecos Pool opened about 10 years ago, Dr. Joe Pearson never thought it would continue on into a decade-long summer tradition.

Hosted at Pecos Pool, Pearson’s pool party is marking its 10th year this weekend, and the whole community is invited.

With a maximum occupancy of about 400, the party will include pizza, raffles, door prizes, music spun from a DJ and, of course, swimming.

“We wanted to do something to engage our patients and to enjoy a marker for the end of school and start of summer,” said Pearson, who has practiced as an orthodontist for the past 20 years.

His practice also recently moved to a new location in Ahwatukee, at 16611 South 40th Street.

The free, pool party will be hosted from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1. Cannon ball contests and other games will be available for prizes like Beats by Dre headphones, iPods and even the chance to win free braces.

Though he never imagined it grow into a larger event for not just patients, but other residents, Pearson said the credit goes to Ahwatukee’s community-driven spirit.

“When you arrive here, you feel part of something and we all like to belong to something,” he said. “It’s a feel-good thing to see everyone out having fun.”

Pecos Pool is located at 17010 S. 48th St. The party is free of charge but registration is required due to limited space.
