The Arizona Department of Economic Security has released information on how it will implement the lump sum budget cuts that were passed in December.

Working families who need child care will be among the hardest hit by the reductions. No new families will be able to use child-care subsidies through this fiscal year, even as people leave the program. So far, more than 10,000 children have been turned away from child care and that number will grow.

Other cuts that will hurt children and their families include fewer children and fee increases for the early intervention therapy and elimination of support for some grandparents who are raising their grandkids. Foster families caring for children with developmental disabilities will no longer receive supplemental funds, which families use to cover special needs.

Since the state budget deficit remains huge and lawmakers have no comprehensive plan to close it, more devastating cuts are on the way and every family in Arizona will be affected. CAA continues to work with lawmakers to promote responsible revenue increases to help Arizona stay strong for the future.
