I have a Bible verse propped up on my desk as a great reminder throughout the day. It reads, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27). Of course the answer to that is a resounding NO! I would like to share a few encouraging stories that illustrate how nothing is impossible for God.

Emily got a divorce after 20 years of marriage. The situation appeared to be impossible. After a few years, she got married again ... to her ex-husband. In Ezekiel 37:3, the Lord showed Ezekiel a valley of dry bones and asked him if the bones could live. Ezekiel replied, “O Sovereign Lord, You alone know.” Those bones came to life. Something that looks dead and hopeless can come to life when God breathes life into it.

Kathy has had cancer in one form or another for most of her life. That she is still alive today after all she has been through is a miracle. Kathy stopped chemotherapy earlier this year when she found out she was pregnant. She gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl in October — full term, no less. This unprecedented miracle was more than just beating the odds because there were no odds to beat. No one in Kathy’s medical condition has ever carried a baby to full term. Kathy was on dialysis when she got pregnant, but when the baby’s kidneys started functioning in the womb, Kathy’s own kidneys started functioning better and she was able to stop dialysis. Miracles upon miracles. Psalm 139:16 says, “All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” Life ... one of God’s specialties.

I have hope that no one is beyond God’s reach. The story of Saul in the Bible is so encouraging to me as I pray for those who do not yet know Jesus. Saul was one of the foremost persecutors of the first Christians, but after an encounter with the risen Lord (and a name change to Paul), he became one of the most devout followers of Jesus and went on to write a big chunk of the New Testament. His own words recorded in Romans 15:13 have given hope to millions. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I recently heard a woman explain how she was contemplating suicide at one point in her life and cried out in agony, “God, do You really exist?” He showed her that He indeed does through a series of amazing consequences. It’s a promise from God that if you truly desire to know if He is real and you ask Him to show you, He will. In Jeremiah 29:13, God says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” That is nothing short of miraculous.

When an angel visited Mary and told her she would give birth to the Son of God, she questioned that likelihood because she was a virgin. When the angel replied, “Nothing is impossible with God,” Mary believed him, and she gave birth to the Son of God.

As we wrap up 2013 and anticipate the coming of a new year, may you have renewed hope and be encouraged by these reminders. “Ah, Sovereign Lord, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You” (Jeremiah 32:17).
