Q: Where are you from and what did you do before opening your business?

A: I grew up in Tucson, where I graduated from the University of Arizona. I then went on to cosmetology school to pursue my dream of owning a salon. I moved to Phoenix six years ago and worked in a few different salons, learning as much as I could. I was just waiting for the perfect moment to open my own salon.

Q: Why did you open your business in Ahwatukee Foothills?

A: The opportunity fell in my lap to take over this salon that had been closed down. Everything about it was great – including the perfect Ahwatukee location. I had always wanted to move to Ahwatukee Foothills!

Q: How did you get the idea to open your business?

A: This had been a goal since I started college to obtain my business degree. I always knew I would open a multicultural full-service salon that could service clients that come to my salon of any hair or skin type.

Q: What type of merchandise/services do you sell?

A: We are a full-service salon offering hair, skin, nails and massage services. We also retail great professional products that include Goldwell, Soma Organic and Mixed Chicks.

Q: What does your business have in store for the future?

A: We love going above and beyond for our clients so we are constantly coming up with new programs and incentives to help them out with their beauty needs. Hopefully, we will be able to expand our existing salon or open another location to meet the growing needs of a multicultural salon.

Q: Anything else you want the community to know about you or your business?

A: Our newest program is the Kurly Kids Hair Care Course. Once a month we hold a class for children ages 3 to 16 years old to show them how to take care of their curly locks. Participants are shown a demonstration on styling curly hair, given product recommendations, shown recommended styling tools, and are given various styling options. Then they are given a hands-on opportunity to style their own hair under our supervision. After completing the course, participants are considered Kurly Kid Members and will get their own discount card to use toward salon purchases.
