When loved ones reach an age where they can no longer care for themselves family members want to know that they are in good hands, and local business Pappy’s Home Care provides its clients with compassion that is not easy to come by in the senior care business.

Jennifer Foster, founder and owner of Pappy’s Home Care, is a certified nurse assistant who has specialized in geriatric care for the past four years. She was inspired to start her own business after caring for her father-in-law Pappy, who passed away in April.

“Pappy inspired me to start a company that would meet seniors’ needs so that they could remain independent while still living out their dreams,” Foster said.

Her business offers meal preparation, hair care, dressing and shower assistance, laundry, pet care, light housekeeping and errands. The focus of the business for Foster, however, has more to do with compassion.

“We want to bring compassion into every client’s home,” she said. “I only hire experienced health care professionals who are family minded. I want to start a new trend of compassion in the geriatrics industry.”

According to Foster, bringing someone into the home to care for seniors in their own comfortable environment is beneficial.

“People are typically happier in their own homes because there aren’t as many upsetting factors as there would be when they are uprooted from their homes,” she said. “They also have more control over their environment, as opposed to being on a set schedule in a nursing home.”

Foster has built some unique elements into her business to encourage people to give Pappy’s a try.

“Normally services like mine cost $19 to $48 per hour, with a four hour minimum,” she said. “I charge $15 per hour and have a two hour minimum.”

Pappy’s Home Care is also offering coupons for new clients, and there is no contract to sign.

“We want people to see what we do and what we’re all about,” Foster said.

As a member of the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce, Foster has been able to connect with other businesses that can provide benefits to her clients.

“I’m working with a company that offers computer classes for seniors, another with really cheap travel, which is good for seniors, as well as a business that provides healthy in-home meals,” she said. “I realized that partnering with them would make sense for my clients.”
