Q: Where are you from and what did you do before opening your business?

A: JJ Kruglick is a Phoenix native. Jimmy Barker, a Desert Vista alum, was born in Chicago, Ill. Previously, Jimmy was a personal fitness trainer at a popular Ahwatukee Foothills studio.

Q: Why did you open your business in Ahwatukee Foothills?

A: The close-knit community aspect of Ahwatukee mirrored the personalized touch JJ and Jimmy wished to bring to pet boarding and daycare. With no other boarding facilities in the area, there seemed to be a built-in demand for quality care where dogs did not have to sit around in cages waiting for their owners to come home.

Q: How did you get the idea to open your business?

A: JJ was looking for a place to board his dog, and was not happy with any of the options available in Ahwatukee at the time. When a local business named “The Pampered Pooch” came up for sale, JJ and Jimmy, seeing great potential, bought the business and went about transforming it into what exists today.

Q: What type of merchandise/services do you sell?

A: Foothills Pet Resort offers dog daycare and boarding in a unique setting where dogs are allowed to interact and socialize all day long with other dogs of similar size and temperament. One unique feature is our 1,000-square-foot outdoor run with grass, misters and play pools, which gives the dogs a chance to really stretch out their legs and enjoy some fresh air. Grooming services are also offered through sister company The Pawz Spa.

Additionally, Foothills Pet Resort carries top-of-the-line food and treats, including Wellness, Natures Variety Kibble and Frozen Raw, and Yoghund, frozen yogurt for dogs.

Q: What does your business have in store for the future?

A: Having nearly tripled in size since opening just over three years ago, Foothills Pet Resort is looking forward to expanding the variety of services available, and have been looking at potential sites in Chandler for a second location. Beyond that, JJ and Jimmy prefer to keep an element of surprise in announcing upcoming events and projects.

Q: Anything else you want the community to know about you or your business?

A: Foothills Pet Resort is truly a labor of love: a love for the pets we take care of, and a love for the clients we serve. We truly enjoy providing assistance in the community and are always willing to sponsor local events, such as the Fall and Spring Foothills Concert Series. We look forward to serving the four-legged members of the Ahwatukee community for a long time to come.
