Local dentist joins Great Shape! Inc. board, volunteers needed

Dr. Harvey Arnce from the Ironwood Dental Center in Ahwatukee Foothills has joined the board of Great Shape! Inc. Beginning as a grassroots response to Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, the organization has grown to be the largest humanitarian dental outreach project in the world.

The project now encompasses eye care, reading skills and basic dental services. There are virtually no available dental services in Jamaica, with one dentist for every 100,000 people. Dental personnel complete fillings, extractions and cleanings on more than 4,000 Jamaicans every year, and this requires 10,000 pounds of supplies and equipment from the United States and Canada. Volunteers teach children oral hygiene in the classrooms.

Volunteers are needed to spend one week in Jamaica. Free accommodations are provided at Sandals Resorts. The project is co-sponsored by Sandals Resorts and the Jamaican government. Used computers, books and eyewear are also needed.

If interested in volunteering or contributing to this humanitarian project, contact Arnce at (480) 704-0701 or visit www.gsjamaica.org.

Free eligibility surveys available for homeowners facing financial hardships

Local CDPE-designated agent Brandon Meryhew of O48 Realty of Phoenix has announced the expansion of an information website for Phoenix-area homeowners in distress: www.Arizona-Short-Sale.com. This resource contains eligibility surveys for government programs offering help to distressed homeowners, including the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program, or HAFA, which increases the likelihood of a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure.

The website acts as a hub for information on the facts and issues for struggling homeowners, putting all the necessary information in one location. With the addition of these new eligibility surveys, the site lets homeowners make educated decisions about their future.

The CDPE designation provides real estate professionals with specific understanding of the complex issues confronting the real estate industry. Through comprehensive training and experience, CDPEs are able to provide solutions for homeowners facing financial hardship in today’s market.
