Here: Teen events at Ironwood Library

Ironwood Library’s Teen Council is sponsoring two events for teens ages 12 to 18 at the library at 4333 E. Chandler Blvd.

A free Swing Class for Teens will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23. Members of the Desert Vista High School Swing Club will provide instruction. Individuals and couples are welcome. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by visiting the library or calling (602) 262-4636.

The annual Teen Art and Photography Contest is under way and all entries, along with an entry form, must be submitted to the library by Feb. 28. Any medium will be accepted within size guidelines. Entry forms and complete guidelines are available at the library. Gift card prizes will be awarded.


Near: Free Sunday A’Fair outdoor concerts begin this weekend

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will open the 23rd season of Sunday A’Fair on Jan. 24 on the grounds of the Scottsdale Civic Center, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Sunday A’Fair is a free afternoon festival featuring performances by some of the Valley’s top entertainers, a diverse selection of arts and crafts available for sale, hands-on activities for children and families and docent-guided tours of the sculptures at the Scottsdale Civic Center. Admission is free. Seating is available on the lawn, and portable chairs and picnic baskets are welcome. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from Arcadia Farms.

Award-winning Shane Kennedy, resident disc jockey at the Bikini Lounge, will spin “vintage Americana” from noon to 1:15 p.m., including classic R&B, country, girl groups and new indie roots.

Concerts will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m., and the lineup includes: Jan. 24, Mark Zubia and Los Guys; Feb. 14, Bad Cactus Brass Band; Feb.  21, Khani Cole; Feb. 28, Cold Shott and The Hurricane Horns; March 7, The DelRayz; March 28, Big Nick and the Gila Monsters; April 4, Alice Tatum; and April 11, Powerdrive.
