DV Girls Lacrosse Host Chaparral

Desert Vista’s girls lacrosse team will put its 3-0 season record on the line when it hosts Scottsdale Chaparral at 6 Friday evening at Pecos Park, 17010 S. 48th St.

Desert Vista is also scheduled to host Mountain Pointe on Thursday, March 11 at Pecos Park.

 

Suns accepting prep hoop coach nominations

The Phoenix Suns are accepting nominations for the annual Spirit of Cotton Award for high school basketball coaches.

The award will recognize one high school basketball coach who consistently demonstrates the best qualities of a coach, mentor and community leader.

Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, March 16 and can be made by a member of the community, fellow coach, teacher, school administrator or student/athlete.

Nomination forms came be downloaded through SunsCharities.org.

 

Play Ball

While the annual Cactus League baseball spring training gets under way this week, Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe are already into the high school season. Look for a season preview on both teams in the Wednesday, March 10 Ahwatukee Foothills News.

 

Elston in national soccer player pool

Alexandra Elston, former Mountain Pointe soccer star and Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year, has been placed in the U-23 Women’s National Team player pool and will be traveling to the team training camp in Sunrise, Fla., later this month.

A junior on the Arizona State University women’s soccer team, where she was the team’s leading scorer with seven goals and six assists during the fall season, Elston’s goal is to make the team and play in international tournaments.

Last year the team traveled to England, Spain and Ireland.
