DV football combine

A football combine for players from 8 through 18 years of age will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Desert Vista High School, 16640 S. 32nd St.

Dan Saleaumua, a 13-year National Football League veteran, and Jeff VanRapphorst, a Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player, as well as area collegiate coaches and professional athletes will evaluate players.

The cost is $15 and will benefit the youth Southeast Valley football program.

The program will be similar to NFL combine testing and include individual evaluation on offensive and defense where players can match skills against other players.

Players should bring cleats and flats.

Information is available through Greg Battle, another professional football veteran, through gbattle@mountainpark,org or 480-759-6200.

Thunder Finish Third

Desert Vista’s ice hockey team defeated Pinnacle, 8-1, for third place in the state championship.

Norte Dame won the title while Phoenix Brophy was the runner-up.

Pride, Tigers go pink

The ball will still be yellow, but when Mountain Pointe hosts Gilbert in a girls softball game Friday, April 9, there will be a strong pink theme.

Instead of the traditional maroon or black and gold uniforms, the Pride and Tigers will both be wearing pink in the Race for the Base charity game, where the teams intend to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.

There is no fee for the game, but the teams are asking for donations.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., and proceeds from the concession stand and a donation table will also be donated to the cause.
