Rick Halloran passes away

Richard “Rick” A. Halloran, devoted husband, father and exceptional lawyer, passed away on Oct. 22 at the age of 47 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife Arlene Tessmer and sons Brennan and Max of Ahwatukee Foothills; parents Richard and Arlene of Plum, Penn.; brothers Michael (Melissa) and Brian (Christie) of Alabama; Kevin (Lydia) of Shaler, Penn.; Matthew (Kristi) of Scranton, Penn.; and David Halloran of Pittsburgh, Penn.

Rick graduated first in his class at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1989. He began his legal career as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Alan N. Bloch in Pittsburgh and then moved to Phoenix, where he spent 18 years as a lawyer at Lewis and Roca LLP. At the time of his passing, Rick was the Practice Group Leader of the firm’s Litigation Section, in which capacity he oversaw nearly 100 lawyers. He was widely recognized in the legal community for his intelligence and abilities, as well as his unfailing integrity and adherence to the highest standards of the legal profession.

Rick also had strong ties to the community and was deeply committed to pro bono representation and other public service. He served as a board member of Community Legal Services of Arizona and the Arizona State Bar Civil Practice and Procedure Committee.

His law partners, professional colleagues, many friends and clients greatly valued his counsel and judgment. His devotion to his family and his pride in the accomplishments of his sons was unwavering.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Chapel at Brophy College Preparatory, 4701 N. Central Ave. Rick’s family requests that donations in his memory be made to The Arizona Cancer Center at The University of Arizona, www.azcc.arizona.edu/giving, or to Hospice of the Valley, http://www.hov.org/donate.aspx">www.hov.org/donate.aspx.

A very special thanks goes to all who assisted with the daily requirements of her care. Much gratitude and thanks to the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Chandler for their dedicated care, love and support of Esther and also to the staff of Premiere Hospice. Thanks to all the family and friends who visited and sent cards and prayers over the last few years. As Esther would always say after goodbye, “I love you more!”
