Nicholas Britton Renz passes away

Nicholas Britton Renz was born Jan. 4, 1993, in Aurora, Colo., and passed away in his sleep at home on Feb. 21, 2010.

Nic was a junior at Desert Vista High School. He was looking forward to attending culinary arts classes during his senior year and then planned to attend a culinary arts school in Boulder, Colo., after completing high school.

Nic was a free spirit with a heart bigger than his chest and creativity beyond limits. Growing up, Nic made friends easily and was always open to new experiences, from racing from his mom’s car and up to the school door on his first day of school at age 5, taking an audio tour of the Louvre at age 8, rafting Class 4 rapids in Maine with his aunt at age 10 and nearly eating his weight in warm roasted almonds at the Christmas market in Munich when he was 14.

Nic enjoyed spending time with all of his friends more than anything, spending time shooting baskets, walking in the park, skateboarding and watching movies or helping cook dinner with his girlfriend TJ and her family. When relaxing at home, Nic enjoyed playing video games, writing and listening to music and had a passion and talent for snowboarding. Nic always stood by his friends, made them laugh and shared his heart, time and possessions with them.

Nic is survived by his mother, Kim Lovett; father, Robert Nicholas Renz, Jr.; sister, Madeline Dawn Renz; newborn nephew, Casey Dane Nicholai Madrid; grandparents, Bob and Susan Renz, Dale Lovett and Meribeth Smith and Dennis and Linda Dittman; aunts and uncles, Kathi and Tom Decker, Rich and Peggy Renz, Joe and Erica Fournier, Kipp Ertl, Katrina and Dana Pension and Kris Lovett; as well as many cousins and an extended family that stretches across the country who loved him dearly. Nic was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Ruth Renz.

A memorial service will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Desert Foothills United Methodist Church, 2156 E. Liberty Lane. Nic will be buried in his childhood home of Colorado.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his honor. Contributions may be made to the Nicholas B. Renz Memorial Account No. 5257148832 at Wells Fargo Bank. Proceeds from the donations will be used to establish a scholarship for students pursuing culinary arts studies after completion of the EVIT program.
