Pinto, Irby planning wedding

Jena Pinto and Brian Irby are engaged to be married, and the wedding will take place Feb. 13 at the Marriott Buttes Resort in Tempe.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dr. Peter Pinto and Dr. Amy Puls of Ahwatukee Foothills. She graduated from Desert Vista High School in 2002 and Arizona State University in 2006. She is associate director of admissions for Education Management Corporation.

The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Pat and Michelle Irby of Scottsdale. He is a 2001 graduate of Tempe Corona de Sol High School and 2008 graduate of Arizona State University. He is an account executive for CBS Outdoor.

 

Kiwanis Club members read to children

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Ahwatukee just completed their annual RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Program for the fall at three Head Start schools.

In addition to Kiwanis Club members reading several books to the children, a total of 140 books were given to the children by the club. In many cases these were the first books that belonged to the children.

 

Temple has new hiking club

The brand new Temple Emanuel of Tempe hiking club recently ventured out to Wind Cave in the Superstition Mountains. The club has plans for many more terrific hikes.

Desert Vista High School student John Buchanan talks to a local television station about Junior Achievement of Arizona’s third annual Student Stock Market Challenge, sponsored by ING, Charles Schwab and TruWest Credit Union. Nearly 300 high school students from all over the Valley participated in the event and competed to see who could grow their mock-stock portfolio and create the highest net worth.
