Calvin W. Johnson passes away

Calvin W. Johnson died April 6, 2010, in Newark, N.J. He was born in Ahwatukee Foothills and lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Newark.

Calvin received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. He later worked for the United States Postal Service, where he began as a letter carrier and then worked his way up to a quality control specialist and manager of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt processing center in New York. Calvin then took on the job of working side by side with his wife each and every day at her Bethune Academy Charter School in East Orange, N.J.

Calvin is survived by his centenarian mother, Jacquelyn; wife, Beth; daughter, Laura Johnson; stepdaughters, Wanda and Barbara Jones; stepson, Michael Wanderi; granddaughter, Patricia; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Nesbitt Funeral Home in Elizabeth, N.J.
