Pride, Tigers go pink

The ball will still be yellow, but when Mountain Pointe hosts Gilbert in a girls softball game Friday, April 9, there will be a strong pink theme.

Instead of the traditional maroon or black and gold uniforms, the Pride and Tigers will both be wearing pink in the Race for the Base charity game, where the teams intend to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.

There is no fee for the game but the teams are asking for donations.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and proceeds from the concession stand and a donation table will also be donated to the cause.

Skate competition rolls to Pecos

The second Pecos Skate Competition will be Saturday afternoon at Pecos Skate Park.

The event begins at 1 p.m. and is open to all age groups and skill levels. All participants must wear a helmet in order to compete.

The entry fee is $4 for youth and teens and $8 for adults over 18.

There will be food, music and vendors promoting skate apparel and equipment.

Participants can register online at www.phoenix.gov/parks or with the city of Phoenix Recreation Center at Pecos Park, 17010 S. 48th St.
