Manzy plans reunion/picnic

Manzanita Speedway, a dirt race track that had been a fixture at 35th Avenue and Broadway Road for more than 50 years, was sold and closed a year ago this month.

But race fans, drivers and car owners plan to gather for a reunion/picnic from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the southeast corner of Cesar Chavez Park at 35th Avenue and West Baseline Road, about two miles from the track.

There is no charge, but organizers Windy McDonald and Phil Hertel suggest guests bring their own chairs, food and beverages.
