HERE: Laborious Labor Day Hike Sept. 2

Come and do the work rangers do on a daily basis from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2. Meet at Beverly Canyon parking lot, 8800 S. 46th St., south on 46th Street off Baseline Road that dead ends into the trailhead. The Laborious Labor Day Hike will be on the Javelina Trail to the Pima Trailhead, and continue back via West Loop and Beverly Canyon Trails. Along the way hikers and bikers and horseback riders will pick up trash. Bring ample water for a 6-mile hike and a headlamp for the return in the dark. Be prepared like park rangers are and carry a pack, first aid kit, snack, water, and a map. Cost is $5 for ages 10 to 85.

NEAR: Glass workshop Sept. 1

Critters take over beads in the Soft Glass Lizards and Turtles Glass Workshop, where students will learn how to add intricate animal sculptures to their lamp work creations at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. Admission is $35.
