Here: DV High School Orchestra presents pop concert

The Desert Vista High School Orchestra will present its annual pop concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the school, 16440 S. 32nd St.

The theme is "A Night at the Movies," and the concert will include music from Star Wars, The Dark Night (Batman) and My Fair Lady, with special guest conductors Aaron Morales and Josh Thye. Two senior students will also be featured: Joe Alongi, winner of the 2010 Concert Competition, will perform the third movement from the Mozart Horn Concerto with the Symphony Orchestra, and violinist Josephine Yang will join the orchestra to perform the "Butterfly Lover's Concerto." The concert will end with "The King of Pop."

Dress up as your favorite movie characters and come enjoy the last orchestra concert of the season.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for middle school students with ID and free for children age 7 and under. Ticket sales begin at 6:30 p.m.

Near: Phoenix Symphony to perform music from the Beatles, Beach Boys and more

Guest conductor Michael Krajewski will return to Symphony Hall May 7 through 9 with a brand new show highlighting the musical hits of the 1960s. Beatles & Friends: Sounds of the ‘60s will include the soundtrack of a generation including "Eleanor Rigby" and "All You Need is Love" from the Beatles, as well as favorites from such 1960s icons as The Mamas and the Papas and The Beach Boys with guest vocalist Rob Evan making his Phoenix Symphony debut.

Concerts will begin at 8 p.m. May 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. May 9 at Symphony Hall, 75 N. Second St.

Other highlights of the Symphony's Pops Season include "Patriotic Pops" (May 28 and 29) and "John Denver" (June 4 and 5).
