The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is once again celebrating its newest fall lineup of exhibitions with a public opening reception bash on Friday, Oct. 8. The fete features five new exhibitions, curatorial gallery talks and mingling with the artists followed by a special fashion runway show highlighting Valley designer finalists competing for Scottsdale Fashion Week's annual Designer of the Year title. The opening celebration is a free, public event which includes a cash bar, DJs and dance entertainment.

Exhibitions on view for the opening include: Thirty Years of Collecting: A Recent Gift to the Museum; southwestNET: photography and video; Modernity and Its Discontents; Jean Shin and Brian Ripel: Unlocking; Bridges: Spanning the Ideas of Paolo Soleri; and Bridges: Connecting Earth to Sky.

Scottsdale Fashion Week is Arizona's ultimate fashion celebration. The high-energy event celebrates fashion, lifestyle and fun. Up-and-coming designers join the runways with nationally and internationally renowned names. Emerging designers seeking a chance to launch their career at Scottsdale Fashion Week's highly publicized Nov. 4 to 6 event compete in a runway show hosted by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art during the Museum's October Opening Celebration. The winning designer will be selected by a panel of industry judges during the SMoCA competition and featured as the opening Scottsdale Fashion Week show on Friday, Nov. 5.

Designers interested in entering the Designer of the Year competition must submit electronically at www.scottsdalefashionweek.com by Aug. 27. Official competition rules will also be available online through the website. Finalists chosen for the Oct. 8 SMoCA runway show will be announced in September.
