Here: Ahwatukee Foothills Concert Band offers free summer concert

The Ahwatukee Foothills Concert band will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center, 5001 E. Cheyenne Drive.

The band will perform music of the American West, from film to the concert halls, with folk tunes, music from classic song-writers and much more. The band will also celebrate music from the stages of Broadway.

Then, celebrate our nation’s birthday (as well as the 99th birthday of the band’s founder, Crawford McClue) by singing and clapping along with your favorite patriotic songs and marches celebrating our country and the men and women in uniform who so selflessly serve it.

The evening will be a monumental musical celebration that only a 60-piece ensemble of shimmering brass, winds and percussion can bring.

Near: ‘Coffee With…’ Eve Plumb

Acclaimed artist Eve Plumb will exhibit Coffee With… July 8 to 22 at Bonner David Galleries, 7040 E. Main St., Scottsdale.

While perhaps best known for her five-year appearance on The Brady Bunch, she is a talented self-taught artist. Plumb’s oil paintings showcase the exquisiteness of everyday items. Her still life paintings are inspired by casual occasions such as taking a coffee break or enjoying a lunch date. Though she remains true to her signature technique of taking photos in favorite cafes and restaurants, Plumb’s concept for her upcoming show surfaced when her friends invited her over for a cup of coffee, where she would take photographs to use for her work.

A special artist reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 8, during the Summer Spectacular Art Walk.
