Chandler part of annual September Concert with global venues

The skies will come alive with music in Chandler at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, as the community takes part in the free annual September Concert, organized by the Chandler Irish Cultural Council (CICC), along with more than 200 other concerts around the world.

It’s the ninth annual global days of music for peace, when professional and amateur musicians will perform classical music, jazz, rock-n-roll. This is Chandler’s first September Concert, and it is free to the public. Entertainers will include the Vocal Jazz Ensemble from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, The Strand, a traditional Irish band, Folklorico dancers, Irish step dancers from the Bracken School of Irish Dance, Native American dancers, a local progressive rock band, a story teller and others.

The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with registration and a silent auction at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort in downtown Chandler. A benefit dinner for CICC begins at 6 p.m. in the San Marcos Ballroom (reservations required). The public concert, which is free to the community, starts at 8 p.m. in the San Marcos Ballroom, beginning with a local Honor Guard.

What began as one person’s dream to fill the skies of New York with music on Sept. 11, 2002, has since grown into an event of global proportions. In 2009, nearly 200 concerts were organized globally with the help of 10,000 volunteers and 15,000 performers worldwide.
