Near: Encaustic painting workshops offered

Imagine taking a candle and creating a piece of art with it. Recognized painters Christopher Jagmin and Ahwatukee Foothills resident Lisa Marie Sipe are offering workshops from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday July 16, and Saturday, July 17, at the modern Alta Lofts Gallery Space at 600 N. Fourth St. in downtown Phoenix to provide artists of all levels the opportunity to indulge in the basics of working with encaustic in a hands-on exploration of this ancient wax art form.

All supplies are included, and the goal of each of these one-day workshops is to become comfortable with encaustic and finish one to two pieces of artwork.

The cost is $150 for one day or $265 for both days. Space is limited. To sign up, call Chris Jagmin at (602) 315-2527 or e-mail For more details, visit
