Dancers, actors and singers alike could turn their dreams into reality when Disney comes to Ahwatukee Foothills' Dance Studio 111 next week for its first auditions in Arizona.

The Disney Wonder, a luxury cruise liner that sails to Alaska and the Mexican Riviera, is looking for character look-a-like performers for its production shows.

Kimberly Lewis, who started Dance Studio 111, formerly known as the Kimberly Lewis School of Dance, 17 years ago, said she was surprised when she first heard the news.

"It's a big deal, we're very honored to be part of this audition process," she said.

"I think they are going to get a great turnout," said Lewis, who guessed the amount of performers auditioning could be in the hundreds.

One of those is Davey Trujillo, the musical theater company director at Dance Studio 111.

"It was pure excitement," said 24-year-old Trujillo, about first hearing of the auditions.

"Disney is something I have always wanted to do, I wanted to be part of the magic they share."

To prepare for the auditions, Trujillo, who lives in Ahwatukee, said he's staying on top of his training.

"Another audition, another chance," he said.

While the auditions are only for those 18 years and older, Lewis said the experience is still important for younger performers, especially those at Dance Studio 111.

"I think it sets the bar, it shows them why we spend so many hours in the studio, there's a goal you are trying to reach," she said.

The goal, if one wants to be part of the Disney magic, is proven tangible thanks to the upcoming auditions.

"There's something in the water here in Arizona," Lewis said. "We are turning out some great dancers."

Auditions will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 12 at Dance Studio 111, 4910 E. Chandler Blvd. To contact the studio, call (480) 706-6040.
