In celebration of the release of Disney’s animated feature film “Planes,” Gilbert family fun center FlipSide is hosting an aviation extravaganza.

In addition to unlimited entry into all of FlipSide’s attractions — including Mini Bowling with a pilot, Fliptopia Arcade, Crash Pods, Laser Tag, Blast Pad and Laser Maze — Aviation Day admission will include a ticket to an exclusive screening of the movie.

Uniformed F-16 pilots from Luke Air Force Base, pilots from U.S. Airways and FedEx, flight instructors and other members of the aviation industry will host presentations and interact with kids during entertainment and crafts.

Sonoran Desert Model Builders will help participants assemble airplanes and gliders out of clothespins and craft sticks while teaching the historical impact of each particular aircraft. The experts’ more complicated model aircraft will be on display for show and tell.

Following the activities at FlipSide, participants and chaperones may head to the Harkins Crossroads Theatre in Chandler, where “Planes” will begin at 2:15 p.m.

Participating children will receive a goody bag and be entered to win a free discovery flight from Wings 270, Disney “Planes” merchandise or a birthday party for ten at FlipSide.

A portion of Aviation Day’s proceeds will benefit the Arizona Business Aviation Association’s Scholarship Program.
