The Ahwatukee Children’s Theater (ACT) will host its second American Girl fashion show next month, while fundraising for community outreach.

Theater director Michele Rubino said last year’s success and turnout of about 500 people prompted the theater to host another show this year.

“There is not a whole lot of funding available for the performing arts, and we have to get creative,” Rubino said.

The combination of the fashion show and fundraiser will be on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave., where a portion of funds will help the theater with future outreach efforts.

The show is set to begin with a historical look at clothing for American Girl’s most popular dolls, followed by a fashion show featuring more than 75 local models.

Earlier this year, the theater made a casting call for models in Ahwatukee Foothills and the tri-city area.

Girls attending the show next month can bring along their own dolls to the event’s “doll salon” for hair and makeup activities. Raffles to win American Girl dolls and merchandise is also in store for guests.

“It’s a fun and interactive event,” Rubino added.

The American Girl brand started in 1987, specializing in dolls, books, and partners with nonprofit organizations.

Though the brand has been around for a while, Rubino said the specialty dolls and company’s theme of “celebrating girls” are still admired by today’s generation.

“After doing the production last year and seeing the response, it’s still pretty relevant,” Rubino said.

The fashion show will have morning, afternoon and evening showtimes on Nov. 3.

Tickets are $30 and can be ordered by calling Chandler Center for the Arts at (480) 782-2680 or by visiting ticketmaster.com. For more information about the show, visit americangirlfashionshowaz.com.
