Laughter, tears, lumps in the throat: They’re par for the course on an emotional day devoted to honoring moms.

So, too, at Sunday’s “Music and Musings in Celebration of Mothers,” a show by Theatre Artists Studio featuring songs from Broadway and the great American songbook and amusing and poignant readings about mothers.

The production is a project of local actors, playwrights, directors, producers and designers who belong to “The Studio,” a member organization that gives theatre artists a place to work at their craft.

Readings are original works by Studio members. The cast includes Charlotte Brooks, Judy Lebeau, Maureen Dias, Lorraine Bousard, Lynn Jaffe and Kira Morford.

Music will be performed by musical artists Scott Hyder and Joe Bousard and 16 Bars Cabaret, a touring group composed of Brooks, Christy Welty, Sydney Davis, Susan Back and Lynn Timmons Edwards.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for the 2 p.m. performance at Theatre Artists Studio, 4848 E. Cactus Road, Suite 406, Scottsdale. The show will be followed by a champagne reception.

No ticket is required, but pay-as-you-can donations will be accepted at the door. The Studio’s previous “Music and Musings for the Holidays” was a standing-room-only event.

Reserved seating and special recognition will be provided for anyone who makes a $100 or more donation in honor or memory of a special woman to the “Spring for The Studio” Challenge Grant Campaign. To reserve a seat or for information, contact The Studio at (602) 765-0120 or www.thestudiophx.org.
