As a token of gratitude for his work as maestro of the Phoenix Symphony for the past eight years, the board of directors of the Phoenix Symphony is naming Michael Christie music director laureate.

Christie, who is taking a job as music director of the Minnesota Opera, will finish out the 2012/2013 season in Phoenix.

In his new role as music director laureate, he is scheduled to return five times over the next three seasons.

“While Maestro Christie will be missed,” said symphony CEO and president Jim Ward in a statement, “he leaves a lasting legacy with this organization and by naming him music director laureate, we offer him a permanent home with us in seasons to come.”
