Tyler Mycek wanted his marriage proposal to his long-term girlfriend to be special, so on Tuesday he set out to make it happen at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.

According to spokeswoman Erin Kozak, it was the first time such a life-changing event had occurred at the museum.

When Mycek proposed to Jessica Nadle, his girlfriend of six years, she said yes. It was their first time at the museum together, but Mycek said Nadle had been wanting to go with him for a long time.

"She was completely oblivious to the proposal, she just really wanted to go and look at the architecture," he said. "The place is beautiful. We both fell in love with it."

As the Ahwatukee Foothills couple browsed the museum, friends and family were put in place, waiting for the big moment.

"I dragged her into the middle of the corridor, near the café," Mycek said. "We were in the middle of a semi-circle of our friends and family. It was quite the spectacle. It was also about three to five seconds of terror."

"I had no idea," Nadle said. "I didn't even realize it was our families. I just saw this group of people and he kept dragging me farther into this circle. Then I heard our song playing, and I knew instantly what he was doing."

Mycek, 24, is a chef at Bagel Nosh in Ahwatukee Foothills. He also works at a restaurant in Scottsdale. He went to the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, where he received an associate's degree.

Nadle, 23, attended the Art Institute of Phoenix. She works as a color consultant at Dunn-Edwards Paints in Ahwatukee Foothills.
