Chambers Stevens, actor, comedian, acting coach, and playwright will be performing his new one-man show at Ahwatukee Children’s Theater (ACT) this Saturday, Nov. 2.

Stevens, an Emmy nominated author and playwright, has performed in other one-man shows. His show, “Desperate for Magic,” won the Backstage Garland award.

He said he was inspired to create his latest show from an encounter with Steven Soderbergh at a screening of the movie director’s documentary, “And Everything is Going Fine.”

The new one-man show, “Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind,” was created from Stevens’ experiences growing up in Nashville, Tenn., and living in Los Angeles as an actor.

“It started when the Mandrell Sisters moved in next door when I was 10,” Stevens said.

Growing up in Nashville he shares many stories about his intimate interactions with country music stars. Country singer Faith Hill was in Stevens’ first acting class. Country singer and songwriter Johnny Cash sponsored Stevens’ Little League baseball team.

In the show, Stevens will have a deck of 100 cards, each with the name of a celebrity he has encountered. He will pick a card and begin to talk about his encounters with the celebrity on the card. Stevens said he should be able to tell 30 to 40 tales in the 90-minute show.

Kelly Fink, a volunteer at ACT, described the show as an improv performance with a comedic element. Fink’s daughter is a student of Stevens.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Ahwatukee Children’s Theater, 5051 E. Elliot Road. Tickets are being sold online for $15.
