One Ahwatukee Foothills resident is making his way into the world of wedding photography one "big push" at a time.

Rob Godridge, a 2007 Desert Vista High School graduate, launched his own wedding photography business earlier this year, and recently made his next big step in his business endeavor by having a booth at the recent Phoenix Bridal Show.

Godridge, who spoke with Ahwatukee Foothills News a few days before the bridal show, said he had recently been very busy trying to get his photography portfolio ready for the show, as well as getting business cards and brochures made.

"It's going really good," he said.

Godridge, who is currently a senior at Northern Arizona University and is double majoring in photography and advertising, said a few years ago starting his own photography business wasn't on his radar.

"I totally didn't know I would go into photography," said Godridge, who attended Mesa Community College for a year before transferring to NAU as an advertising major his sophomore year.

He made his first big push toward his photography dreams by purchasing $20,000 worth of professional camera equipment with money that his late grandparents left him.

Godridge, who purchased a Canon 5d Mark II, a top of the line camera, as well as other professional camera equipment, said he thinks using the money his grandparents left him to start his career as a wedding photographer was a wise choice.

"I bet they'd be proud of me right now," he said.

After purchasing his camera equipment, Godridge, with the help of his father, started his own business called Platinum Memories Photography and also created a website for it. Shortly after Godridge got his first job in June of this year photographing a friend's wedding.

Since then, he has shot another wedding, as well as engagement photos, family portraits, senior portraits and also photos for his own photography portfolio in Sedona and Flagstaff.

Godridge said he is flexible when it comes to photographing families. He goes out to people's homes and transforms the property into a mini photography studio with the use of a white canvas cloth and his personal lighting equipment. He said by doing this he is able to photograph family pets easier since they are in their own environment.

Godridge said that although he takes various kinds of portrait photos, his real passion is wedding photography.

"It comes pretty natural to me," Godridge said.

After visiting Flagstaff for his final year of college, Godridge said he found that there were more possibilities for him to take photos up north. Currently, his favorite spot to shoot photos is Red Rock Crossing in the Red Rock State Park outside of Sedona.

"Sedona is very pretty," he said.

Godridge is also hoping to take photos of some of his friends soon in Two Guns, Ariz., a so-called ghost town that is about 30 miles outside of Flagstaff.

When asked why he enjoys taking wedding photographs, Godridge said he loves capturing candid moments between couples. He said he knows the photos he takes will be something the couple will be able to look at in their later years, and be able to remember how happy and in love they were on their big day.

"I like capturing the moments, and making them (his clients) happy," he said.

Godridge's next big wedding photography endeavor will be his sister's wedding in February.
