High-powered boats will make waves this weekend at the newly remodeled Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series kicks off Sept. 13-15 at the park, formerly known as Firebird International Raceway. The boats slice through the waves at more than 250 mph.

The new Motorsports Park combines a 120-acre watersports lake, three road course circuits, and an entertainment center for holding concerts and festivals.

Renovations include updated suites and grandstand seating by the starting line.

A white sand beach and walking trails around the lake are expected be completed by Spring 2014. Families will be able to sail and wakeboard on the lake and picnic on grass, according to a release.

“We are focusing more on the experience for the spectator and allowing for more action to be seen and heard,” said Paul Clayton, managing partner of the facility in the release.

Tickets for the boat races are $10 for adults and free for kids age 12 and younger. For information, call (480) 639-1921 or visit RaceWildHorse.com.
