An orchestra, quintet and children's choir all come together in Ahwatukee Foothills for Mountain View Lutheran's 2010 Christmas Spectacular.
The annual event, part of the Mountain View Concert Series, will take place once again on Dec. 3 and 4. This is the fifth year the church has put on the show.
The spectacular begins with a musical from the children's choir that takes the audience "Back to the Manger." The musical is described as a "caroling adventure through various time periods, where we are reminded of the significance of God sending his Son to earth as a child, born in a manger," according to a statement from the church.
Next, the audience will be brought to a different room in the church where the orchestra and quintet will play classical and religious Christmas music.
The concert will also have performances from the Mountain View Hand Bell Choir, called "The Bells of Praise."
"It's a fun family time," orchestra member Mike Downey said. "It's time to relax and enjoy Christmas time and to get away from the shopping rush. And it's free."
The spectacular begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in the Family Life Center of the church, 11002 S. 48th St. Another showing will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in the church's sanctuary. Tickets are free and available at any weekend services or in the church office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
