The Ahwatukee Children's Theatre is producing "Little Shop of Horrors" this weekend, including a late-night showing on Saturday to celebrate Halloween.

The musical's "midnight showing" will start at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, and attendees are encouraged to come in their Halloween garb. The theater will hand out candy, host a costume contest, and give prizes to audience members for answering Halloween-related trivia, said Yvette Dickson, the theater's community outreach director.

The midnight showing is "something fun to do for Halloween," she added.

Brooklynn Rydman, 16, is one of the show's six "Doo Wop Girls," and a member of the show's entirely high school-aged cast. Rydman said she remembered liking the "Doo Wop Girls" when she saw ACT's first production of "Little Shop of Horrors" in 2007.

Rydman has spent the last 10 years taking classes at the theater and performing there. She was too young to perform in the 2007 show, but said she's excited to now be one of the "Doo Wop Girls," roles that are both characters and narrators in the musical.

Rydman also is looking forward to Saturday's midnight showing. She performed in one last year.

"I think the audience was excited to be there, which made it more fun for us," she said.

In addition to the midnight showing on Saturday, other show times include 7 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance or at the door at ACT, 5051 E. Elliot Road. For advance tickets, call (480) 705-9319.
