Based on the trailers and commercials, Unknown has you thinking the whole time that the outcome is predictable; however, as the movie carries on you realize how unpredictable it actually is when you discover an important and unexpected twist.

Dr. Martin Harris (played by Liam Neeson, also known as Bryan Mills in Taken), and his wife Elizabeth Harris (played by January Jones, also known as Cadence Flaherty from American Wedding), start the movie out by flying to Berlin for a Biotechnology Summit that was going to be at the hotel that they were staying at. Upon arrival, Harris realizes that his briefcase was left at the airport by his taxi driver, so he immediately gets another cab to go back to the airport to find it without even letting his wife know what he was doing or where he was going.

The second cab Harris gets into is driven by a girl named Gina (played by Diane Kruger, who was also Abigail Chase in National Treasure). While driving to the airport, Gina and Harris get into an accident, which results in the taxi being driven off of a bridge into the water. Harris was knocked, however, Gina was able to save him right before she left the scene.

Four days later, Harris wakes up from a coma in a hospital room not quite remembering what happened to him but is more worried about the whereabouts of his wife. He is concerned that she doesn't know where he is, plus she has been by herself in Berlin. Although the doctor advises against Harris leaving, he releases him, and Harris eventually remembered what hotel he was staying at and goes there.

He makes it in time for the Summit and spots his wife. Security hesitatingly lets him in because he has no identification and in a quick moment Harris starts questioning his own sanity when he sees his wife with another man who claims he is the real Dr. Martin Harris (played by Aidan Quinn known for Officer Gary Hallet in Practical Magic). His wife, Elizabeth, suddenly denies knowing him at all and, thus, starts the search for Harris to find out what is going on and to find proof that he is who he says he is.

To prevent being arrested by hotel security, Harris pretends that he is confused due to his accident and asks to be brought to the hospital that he just came from. While there, he asks the doctor and nurse details about how he got to the hospital, to start trying to figure out what is really going on. A nurse gives him a referral to a man named Ernst Jurgen (played by Bruno Ganz, who is also Delp from The Manchurian Candidate) who can help prove that he is who he says he is. At that point Harris starts questioning himself when he and the nurse are suddenly attacked and that's when Harris realizes that he is not crazy and that there is something strange going on.

He meets with Ernst Jurgen, who could be the only person that could help him prove that he is the real Dr. Harris. He advises Harris to call people he knows from the states to verify or help prove that he is not lying. Jurgen advises Harris to also try and hunt down the taxi driver because she could know what is going on.

The movie has you thinking that you know what is going to happen, but a few twists make for a good mystery thriller.
