"Zombie Squash," a video game designed and programmed by Ahwatukee Foothills resident Attila Juhasz, is available for PCs this month, and will be available as an iPhone app by the spring.

The video game is relatively new to the gaming scene as the beta demo was first released on Oct. 31, and can be downloaded online for free at www.zombiesquash.com.

Juhasz said he has already been in contact with companies for global distribution of the game, which he says is extremely encouraging.

Juhasz is the designer and creator of "Zombie Squash," and says he found inspiration for the game in old movies.

"I got influences from old movies like ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes' and ‘Day of the Tripids,'" said Juhasz, who has been in the gaming industry for many years. He said he knew he wanted to be a part of the industry on a creative level when he came up with the idea for "Zombie Squash."

Although his game looks similar to "Plants V Zombies," Juhasz says his personal touches make it stand out.

"The music for the game I wrote, composed and recorded," he said. "It is a fun song with a popping beat that really adds to the game and makes it more fun."

"Zombie Squash" also features zombie plants as the enemies, whereas "Plants V Zombies" features human zombies and the plants as the good guys.

"The full origins of the ‘Zombie Squash' game will be revealed when the full version is released," Juhasz said. "It's a simple and more casual game that anyone can play and enjoy."
