If you think you couldn’t possibly enjoy Shakespeare, this could be the show to change your mind.

The madcap comedic sensation “The Complete Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged)” plays through Nov. 3 at Mesa Encore Theatre’s new Black Box on Brown venue in Mesa.

An irreverent parody of the venerable British bard, the show has been likened to Monty Python, the Marx Brothers and Mad Magazine all rolled into one fast-paced evening of the absurd.

“This is a comedy that pokes fun at Shakespeare in a positive light ... It is a group of ‘actors’, parodying all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays and sonnets in less than two hours,” says director Van Rockwell.

So what begins as “Romeo and Juliet” turns into a zany series of vignettes like “Titus Andronicus” as a cooking show and “Othello” via rap song.

But be forewarned: There is some coarse language and sexual innuendo.

The Black Box on Brown is at 318 E. Brown Road. Tickets are $12 and can be obtained by visiting BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling the box office at (800) 838-3006.

Seating is limited and advance purchase is recommended. For information, visit MesaEncoreTheatre.com.
