In politics there are those who laugh and those who cry, and local author Curtice Mang chooses to laugh in his new book, “The Constitution – I’m not Kidding and Other Tales of Liberal Folly.”
Mang says he got the idea for writing the book after a letter to the editor he sent to the Arizona Republic started getting a lot of attention online. His letter compared the size of the health care legislation, which he says was somewhere around 2,000 pages, to the size of the constitution, including the federalist papers, which was under 500 pages all together.
“The letter was printed and ended up on the website and a number of readers responded both pro and con,” Mang said. “What was interesting were some of the more liberal responders. Some of their comments were just hilarious to me. One said, ‘Well, don’t you know that the Obama legislation is double spaced?’ I thought that’s just silly and kind of humorous to me. I think a lot of people on the left and their arguments are funny, they just don’t realize it. It kind of triggered my thought process.”
In his book Mang pokes fun at subjects like global warming, the nanny state, big government and other issues he says would be “near and dear” to those on the left. Still, he says even those on the left could find some humor in his writing.
“I think humor is humor,” he said. “If it’s funny enough even those on the left will find some humor in it. I sent it to a friend of mine who is on the left politically and while he said there are a lot of things we need to discuss because he takes a different viewpoint on a lot of the issues, he still said there’s a lot of good humor in it. He’s someone who I admire their opinion so I appreciate that feedback.”
Mang has a degree in political science from Arizona State University and has been involved with politics throughout the years as a volunteer. His book is available as a paperback or ebook at www.mangwrites.com. It’s also available at www.barnesandnoble.com and www.amazon.com. Mang can be contacted at www.mangwrites.com or on Facebook.
